Rent Jungle Named One of Pittsburgh’s Best Places to Work in 2015

You can tell your mom you made it in the working world when your company has made the list for ‘Best Places to Work.’  That is exactly how we feel at Rent Jungle today; proud, honored and beyond excited to be one of the 100 commendable companies who made Pittsburgh Business Times “Best Places to Work” list in 2015.

We came. We saw. We conquered.

Cliché, but oh so true.  Rent Jungle was ignited in 2010 because of a unique and opportunistic gap in the market. There was no one-stop shop online to find rental housing listings. And if you’ve ever been on the apartment hunt before, you’ll know the agony we’re talking about. But that personal agony we each have gone through when looking for a place to call home, led us to the business idea of the century called Rent Jungle. Since 2010 we have helped pave the way for apartment hunters and managers to navigate through the online jungle of rental housing.

We continue to conquer the market through hard work, but we also leave some time to monkey around and that is our “not so secret recipe” which allowed us to coin a spot in Pittsburgh Business Times Best Places to Work in 2015.

Pizza Tuesdays and beer Fridays tend to be a regular weekly ritual. Actually, free lunches Monday through Wednesday are a typical trend. But the food perks is not the only reason Rent Jungle remains high on the list. Grant, one of the fifteen dedicated employees, summed up the atmosphere so uniquely by saying, “There is no such thing as an office environment here. We all treat the space like our home.” And that is what’s so telling here. Work and home can be a combined space. Use a bouncy ball instead of a chair, start your day at 6am or 10am, and enjoy a cold one during the last Friday meeting of the day. The choice is ultimately yours.

From 5 employees to 15, we’ve come a long way. We’re a small team with an array of personalities, but we all have one thing in common - a sense of accomplishment and trust that comes with the work and territory of working for a start up company like Rent Jungle.

What’s APPening at Rent Jungle? Meet the Apartment Search App!

Searching for a new rental apartment or home can be an overwhelming task to tackle. You already know that the Rent Jungle site aggregates rental listings from all across the internet, and puts them on one searchable website, but now, the Rent Jungle search capabilities have gone mobile with the release of the new Rent Jungle Apartment Search app! Take your apartment hunt on the go, and snag the perfect rental!

The app had been in development for approximately a year, and now is it available to the public to download. Currently, the Rent Jungle app is only available for iPhone, but worry not Android users, an Android-compatible app is currently under development. However, the exact release date of the Android app is yet to be determined.

The Rent Jungle app performs the same search capabilities as the website does. Users are able to search for available rentals in a specific location, and then narrow those results down using the same search filters that are available on the website. Available filters include number of bedrooms, cost and distance. Users may also “favorite” listings they would like to bookmark to look at later through the app, just as they would on the site.

The main difference between the website and the mobile app concerns posting available rental units. Users may post their rental and choose between a basic and a featured listing on the website, but not through the mobile app. The mobile app currently only handles rental search capabilities. If a user is interested in creating or managing listings, they will need to do so using the Rent Jungle website to create an account.

What is the next step once a user has found the perfect rental through the Rent Jungle app? “Email” and “call” buttons are located at the top of each listing, which will put users in touch with the realtor or property manager.

The Rent Jungle app is available to download in the App Store, and is completely free, both download and to use. What are you waiting for? Download our new app and begin your search for the perfect rental today!

Welcome to the (Rent) Jungle

Rent Jungle is excited to introduce its newest team members, Grant Bachman and Sarah Spock. At the Rent Jungle offices, we always like to pose a few silly questions to our new hires, such as “What is your biggest fear?” While these questions are fun ice-breakers, we want our readers to get to know the real Grant and Sarah, and what brings them to our company!

Grant Bachman joins Rent Jungle as a Software Developer. Armed with an economics degree from Penn State University, he chose to pursue a career in programming, which was always an interest of his. Grant was formerly employed in programming at UPMC and in technology services at Epic Systems Corporation. In his new role at Rent Jungle, Grant is working on the backend development on Rent Jungle’s Spider search tool and review tracker software. Grant hopes to improve his programming knowledge in this role by honing his development skills and learning new methodologies. Grant’s long-term goal is to start his own company.

Rent Jungle is growing so quickly that we have not one, but two new employees to introduce you to. Now that you know a little about Grant, allow us to introduce you to Sarah Spock! Sarah joins the Rent Jungle team as a Software Engineer for the Spider team. Sarah brings an extensive background, including both frontend and backend work for a variety of companies, including Home Depot, Westinghouse and Xilinx. Sarah earned a degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, and would like to advance her skills in data analysis through her new position at Rent Jungle. “I love working on a team with other talented programmers. I feel this will enhance my skills as a software professional,” Sarah said of her new role. Outside of the office, Sarah enjoys reading, traveling and exploring new places, and arts and crafts.

If you have a chance to visit the Rent Jungle offices, be sure to stop by and say hello to Grant and Sarah! Be sure to follow the Rent Jungle blog for the most up-to-date company news and developments!
