Happy Holidays from Rent Jungle

December has struck and so has the snow around Rent Jungle headquarters. Our CFO headed south for the winter, but the rest of us are preparing for the cold with hot coffee and heavy boots. Here's a look at our holiday plans, and how we intend to rejuvenate our creative juices.

Erik, Matt, and Bryan (our computer scienticians) all plan on catching up on sleep. It turns out that when you stay awake for twenty hours a day for an entire year, you begin to go somewhat insane. They prefer to hibernate over the winter season in lieu of "wasting a full eight hours on sleep, which is overrated by the way, and plus RockStar keeps me awake and active, thank you very much."

Josef (aka Jeauxsef) plans on striking his car repeatedly with a crescent wrench until the alternator decides to heal itself. When asked why he does not just take the car to a mechanic, he responded by yelling wildly and swinging a badly mangled crescent wrench.

Daniel Lanigan, our lead developer, is already on break, and most likely still working from home.  He plans on sitting in the rocking chair on his front porch chewing a strand of straw, a cigarette lit between his fingers, shedding a single tear for freedom.

CEO Jon Pastor will be spending his winter break with his wife and new born babe. With some promises to refrain from working through the entire holiday season, he plans on watching both the Charlie Brown Christmas and A Christmas Story before the 25th.

So from all of us, we wish you a happy holiday season. Stay warm, healthy, and cheerful!

We here at Rent Jungle take our jobs seriously. We work hard, play hard, eat hardy meals, and just like any red blooded American, we sleep hard to recuperate our strength. In an initiative to connect better with our social media arm, we ordered the official Osmosis Social Media Pillows from the internet (CraftSquatch).

Our developers couldn't keep their hands off them. Bellow you can see Erik slithering up from behind the chair-like pedestal to sneakily touch each individual pillow.

Like a sleuth, he fingers his way over to the Twitter pillow, trying to learn it's secrets. On the right in the background, you might notice Bryan becoming visibly upset.  Clearly he also wants to learn more from the Twitter pillow.

Sensing the predatory nature of Bryan's scowl, Erik returns to the Facebook pillow and puts on his best troll face.

Bryan revels in his victory, and begins the osmosis process. Can't get enough of pillows, those developers.

Bryan is also getting pretty darn good at his bird impression:

Right. Thanks for checking in. More office antics to come!

Geng At University of Miami

Geng Wang, co-founder of Rent Jungle talked to students in Professor Sheryl Alonso's class, Advanced Organizational Behavior (senior elective) at the University of Miami last week. He spoke about Rent Jungle and our sister company, Community Elf.

He talked about his background and what he's been doing since graduating from Michigan State University in  2008. He also talked about the background of Rent Jungle and Community Elf and how the two companies came about.  Students asked a lot of questions like "How did you get funding for the idea?" or "What made you think Rent Jungle would be a good idea to start?"

Students also were great in giving feedback on both businesses.  Interesting stats on the students: 90% of the classes used Twitter, 75% have Liked a company on Facebook,  40% have used QR codes  One of the students also used Rent Jungle last year to look for an apartment as well. Thanks for the feedback,
Advanced Organizational Behavior class!

Rent Jungle Booth FTW

This June, Jon Pastor (CEO) and Josef Bookert (PR Guy) headed off to Las Vegas for a supposed “conference” for the National Apartment Association. Naturally thinking that they had simply absconded with unallocated company funds for a week-long spending spree in Vegas, we set our mighty team of interns to the task of proving their guilt.

Turns out it was a real conference with some really cool people and sites, including our own booth (see below). In addition to networking and getting the Rent Jungle brand out there, the two managed to smooth-talk their way into a competitor’s reception, and were even able to take in a Cirque du Soleil show.

All in all, it was a good trip, and the team is excited about checking out the next conference in Boston. If you’re around, come by and say hey!

Changing Up the Game

Good News!

Just this week we launched our new sister site, Compare Your Rent ( The site give renters some leverage when dealing with landlords asking too much for rent, and lets them take a look at what neighbors are forking over in rent.

Want to know if that ad you found on Rent Jungle is a great deal or not? Try out CYR and see! Since the site is still in its early stages, we'd love to hear some feedback. Shoot an email to info (at) to tell us what you think, what you'd like to see, and how we can make the site more useful to you.

Sorry, no pics today, but more to come soon!

CEO Taking Care of Business

Jon Pastor, CEO and man of many talents for Rent Jungle, today unveiled his new and innovative technique to improve workplace sanitation and sanity. Wielding his mechanical broom like a broadsword, his sweeping initiatives are gaining popularity amongst those tired of forgotten paper-clips and lost dimes.

Spring cleaning like the dapper gentleman of yesteryear, Jon has won the hearts and minds of his underlings and minions with his vacuuming expertise. His approval rating jumped five points this week, making it likely that his incumbency will stay strong over the coming economic storm. Although critics claim his talents are wasted on these acts of public decency, most seem to agree with his 'hands on' attitude and high spirits.

Potato Clock (revisited)

A few weeks have gone by since our original Potato Clock find. The firm who sends us this stuff really has their stuff together. Just yesterday, in nigh-omniscient precognition, they sent us some extra power for the clock...

Please note the potatoes are formed with a natural branding. I heard they genetically
engineered them to grow a harmless red fungi for branding purposes.

Just in case you forgot what the two objects above were...

Thanks for all the awesome clock and stew materials!

Company Update

Dear Friends and Fans,

We have had an amazing past few months here at Rent Jungle, and we're excited to share our news with you. Apologies for being out of touch for a bit...we've been quite busy!

Brand New Site Design and Upgraded Search Technology

If you haven't been to the site in a while, you should know that we've had some major upgrades. We are now indexing over 10 million web pages from 12,000 property managers. We have more listings than any other apartment search site!

We recently redesigned the site to including our new Moving Center, added some new features to our map and list view to make navigation easier, and we've even crafted an improved "post your listing" section to help property managers get their listings up quickly and easily.

We are a Webby Award Honoree

As you may well know, the Webby Awards took place over the last few weeks, giving out honors to websites worthy of appreciation. Sure enough, Rent Jungle was named an Honoree in the real estate category, something we're pretty excited about! The Webby Awards, presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, are an international award honoring excellence in design and content on the internet.

Our Traffic is Growing Like Crazy!

We received over 500,000 unique visitors this March alone! With apartment hunting season around the corner, we are preparing for some pretty incredible results.

So come like us on Facebook and tell your friends! Become a fan for more updates and related news. You can also follow us on Twitter at @rentjungle, and on our blog. Thanks for tuning in, and have a fantastic week!

Potato Clock

So we received an interesting package via snail mail the other day:

First, thinking it was a bomb, we quickly alerted the bomb-squad, fire station, police, and pentagon.

But lo and behold, a potato powered clock! We made quick work of the intricate
wiring required to power this veggie time device.

Success! Rent Jungle is now more green than ever!
Thanks for the potato!

The Webby Awards Have Spoken

The 15th annual Webby Awards have given Rent Jungle an official honoree status in the real estate category! This means that out of the millions of sites out there, out of the thousands that entered, Rent Jungle was honored for its "excellence on the internet." But don't take our word on it, take a look here:

You'll notice we're bumping elbows with other similar sites, most of which have been around for years. And although we didn't take the gold, we're new comers to the sport and know we'll get there soon. Here's to next year!

Follow us on Facebook and Twitter to get the latest updates!

The Great Pittsburgh Flood...

So we had a little flood here at the office. Everyone's fine, but we think our neighbors nearly lost a car just down the street.

The front of the office. Parts of the road are about two feet deep.

Daniel took a smoking break next to the ever rising waters.

About a week later, we received some massive hail from the heavens.
Geng risked his life on the roof to grab these gems for a quick photo.

Yukon, Ho!

What’s better than having the most apartment and rental housing listings in the U.S.? Having the most listings in both the U.S. and Canada! Last month we spread the range of our search engine to cover Canada as well, meaning that we've expanded our base by a significant margin. Other than just having extra traffic, we are also now an international site!

Our press release revealed our growth in February, but what we are really waiting for are the impressions of the site on an international plane. Sure Americans love the site, but what will our friendly neighbors to the north think about our apartment search engine? If our traffic spike over the last few weeks is any indication, they seem to like it just fine. We also received a write up in the Montreal Gazette, so we know we’ve created a buzz.

So what’s next for Rent Jungle? Rent Jungle Mexico? Rent Jungle Europe? Rent Jungle WORLD? I suppose time will tell. Until then, we’ll just make sure our U.S. and Canadian users get the best experience available online.

Starting 2011 on the Right Foot

We here at Rent Jungle have started the New Year with a bang and are excited to report to you some of our January accomplishments:

1.      Our predictions were correct in regards to our growth. As a result January will host our highest traffic numbers to date. We have been breaking our own expectations,   and we appreciate all the help you, our readers, have supplied!
2.      We recently were given a featured blog spot on Inman News and have seen the post spread across the internet. People are picking up on Rent Jungles momentum, and we are looking forward to a good year with the press.
3.      We recently reached our goal of having 1000 friends on our Facebook page. Our next goal is catching up to Mark Zuckerberg, so tell your friends!
4.      Our traffic is growing and so must those who tend to it, so we also recently added another office room. With Google moving in next door, we’re likely to bump into one another’s office space from time to time. We just hope they don’t mind our continually playing theme song, Eye of the Tiger.

Thanks for checking in, we’ll send another update in early February. Stay warm!
